Adilsons Newsletter 2022 v.2

Date Published: Sat, 30th July, 2022

Happy weekend everyone! As Adilsons prepares to conclude one of the most instrumental weeks in our run, we want to bring you up to speed on everything that happened this past week and, more importantly, on what you guys can expect in the coming days! From big openings to fun events and raising awareness, July's final Newsletter has a bit of anime for everybody!

1. Manga Street Without the Manga?!

The 22nd of July brought great strife into the Mauritian anime community, with a controversial announcement by the Chinatown Foundation of its intentions to replace the current murals at what's come to be dubbed the "Manga Street". A project that remains in recent memory (it only been 2 years!), Manga Street has attracted tens of thousands of visitors- both local and foreign- for photoshoots and tours in appreciation of the artistic talent of the Mauritian community blended with its deep-seated passion for anime. The reception of the announcement has been largely negative, with several members of the original project notably expressing their frank disapproval for proposed changes, mainly with the way the announcement is being made and the disrespect it implies towards the individuals who worked on the art we see today.

Adilsons would like to offer a voice to these individuals and help their views gain wider reach. We have already attempted to contact the Chinatown Foundation on social media, to no response. In lieu of this approach, we plan on writing a letter to the Foundation, encouraging them to discuss the changes and work on plans that would either appease both parties or, at the very least, grant credence to those involved in the Manga Street Project. For this reason, we encourage all members of the original project to take part in our survey so that they may voice their concerns and add momentum to their rebuttal. You may find a link to the survey in question here. Please note that we are only accepting responses from those directly involved in the project, be it in any capacity.

2. New Shop at Citadel Mall!

As promised, the grand opening of our second branch at Citadel Mall was held on Saturday, the 30th of July! We are greatful to everyone who showed up to the event and helping us celebrate in true weeb fashion! Kindly note that our primary branch at Harris Street will remain closed until further notice. The new shop offers bigger space and better access for all your anime needs; drop by and enjoy our growth as we make leaps in our plans to serve you better!

*Katanas are currently unavailable for online purchases and shall not be subject to reservations. They are only for sale at our new shop at 2.5k for the Wooden katanas and 3.5k for Metal katanas. Use them responsibly.

3. Vagabond Event!

The Yugioh Vagabond event at Caudan was a massive success! Duels were fought, life points were lost, cards were drawn and Lost Arts were won... but there can be only one winner! We are glad to say that the next event would be on the 6th August at Caudan

4. Instagram Giveaway in Effect!

In the meanwhile, you can enter our ongoing Instagram giveaway here and stand to win a katana of your own! Nothing catches more eyes in a weeb's anime collection than a sword on a stand, glinting away its vengeance in the light.

5. TikTok Giveaway Next Week!

Be sure to keep an eye out on our TikTok, because we're planning a giveaway next week! No more details at this time, so be sure to check in for more updates soon!

6. Yugioh! Nationals and Grand Championship

For now, save those dates, on the 21st of August 2022 we are going to hold our largest YuGiOh event of the year, the National Tournament which will feature the best duelists in Mauritius. Then, on the 28th of August, we are organising the Grand Championship tournament which will feature the winners of past tournaments. Stay tuned for more details next week

7. Mauritius Got Talent!

In keeping with our tradition to help Mauritian talent grow, Adilsons shall now embark on a weekly journey to highlight the talents of a local artist: be it drawings, dance, or any form of creative expression or talent. In so doing, we hope to provide increasing exposure to young artists and grant them a platform from which their works/performances shall gain merit. We understand publicity is a difficult task to achieve for fledgling artists, therefore each week we shall highlight works of local talent so that everyone has a chance to shine!

This week's Artist is Rachelle Antoine!

Describing herself as a 19 year old art addict, Rachelle is a big fan of anime & k-pop. Excelling at painting, her Instagram (@rachellegallery) is your one-stop shop for hand-made art ranging from phone-covers to wall-paintings to the classic paint-on-canvas. We highly recommend checking her page out; you can show your support by following her, liking her posts, sharing or even ordering her works for your own enjoyment!

This week, it's all about #RachelleGallery !

The event will be streamed on MAPPA’s YouTube channel.

Discotek Media announced a whole slate of new licenses and upcoming releases at their Otakon 2022 Japanese Anime Industry Information Session on Saturday, including upcoming releases of the Urusei Yatsura TV series, Symphogear XV, the new dedicated tokusatsu label Toku Time and more.

This weekend, the 2021 live-action Tokyo Revengers film was broadcast on Japanese television for the first time. The airing also came with big news: a sequel film!

Tokyo Revengers 2 will continue the big-screen adaptation of Ken Wakui's sci-fi/action manga, which currently has over 65 million copies in circulation worldwide. Takumi Kitamura will once again play protagonist Takemichi Hanagaki, with Tsutomu Hanabusa returning to direct.

Kitamura says he's looking forward to seeing his fellow cast members and doing martial arts again. Wakui is also excited about the new adaptation of his manga, noting that we'll get to see new cast members in action.

Tokyo Revengers 2 is slated to premiere in Japan sometime in 2023.
