Yu-Gi-Oh! Speed Duel is a specialized format of the popular trading card game, Yu-Gi-Oh!, designed to provide a faster and more streamlined gameplay experience. Introduced in 2019, Speed Duel draws inspiration from the original Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series and is designed to capture the nostalgic feel of duels in the Duelist Kingdom era.

In Speed Duel, players engage in rapid-fire duels using smaller decks and a unique ruleset. The format is specifically tailored to recreate the fast-paced battles seen in the original anime, where characters like Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba first showcased their dueling skills.

The primary difference between Speed Duel and the traditional Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG is the reduced deck size. In Speed Duel, players construct decks consisting of a minimum of 20 cards, making it easier to draw into key cards and execute strategies swiftly. This smaller deck size allows for quicker duels, perfect for players who prefer shorter, more intense gameplay sessions.

Speed Duel offers a wide range of cards specifically designed for this format, including iconic characters, signature cards, and unique strategies from the early days of Yu-Gi-Oh!. These cards often feature artwork and designs inspired by the original series, allowing fans to relive their favorite moments and play with their beloved characters.

As of the 22nd of April 2023, a new ban list was designed to keep the game fair and balanced. 

The Forbidden & Limited List has been given down below in the google form when applying for the upcoming tournament.

The rules of Speed Dueling are designed to facilitate speedy gameplay, enabling duelists to execute their strategies swiftly. With a smaller deck size and modified starting Life Points, every move counts, and every card played can turn the tide of the duel. It demands not only a deep understanding of the game mechanics but also quick thinking, adaptability, and a keen eye for seizing opportunities.

No entry fee needs to be made for this event; entry fee of Rs 50 applicable at event location.

How tournaments proceed

Swiss format, where duelists face other duelists having almost or the same score as them, round by round. A minimum of 4 participants is needed to host a tournament for Speed Duel, and depending on the number of participants, the number of rounds is as follows:

4 – 5 players: 3 Rounds

6 – 9 players: 4 Rounds

10 or more players: 5 Rounds

Hosted as Best of 3, that is, the first player to win 2 duels in a match is the winner of that match.

The point system for this tournament’s Swiss Format is as follows:

Winning the duel: 3 points for winner

Losing the duel: 0 point for loser

Draw: 1 point for each participant in the duel

Each tournament pairings will be posted on the spot. Any upcoming Speed Duel tournaments will be announced on the Whats App group “Adilsons Speed Duel Group”. To join the group, contact us at +230 57895262. It is compulsory to be in the Whats App group to get any news concerning Speed duel or about any upcoming Speed Duel tournaments.

How to participate

When it comes to participation of Speed Duel tournaments, anyone in Mauritius is allowed to play, if they have a legal deck for the events. Loaner decks are also available on the spot. They also need to be able to pay the entry fee, as well as be available to collect their rewards if they receive any.

Payment can be made at the shop, at Trianon, at a tournament, or via Juice. As for the rewards, they are usually collected at the shop, and, if sent a request to the tournament hosts, at Trianon too.

For any Speed duel tournaments hosted, it is mandatory to be there on time. A 15-minute lateness will result in a round loss.

To participate, there are Google Forms sent on the Whats App group chat “Adilsons Speed Duel Group” before each tournament to fill in. Participants need to mention their names and Cossy IDs.

Cossy ID

A Cossy ID is a series of numbers that is used to identify participants for Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments. Once a Cossy ID is assigned to a participant, the same Cossy ID is used by that same participant for all other tournaments

Instructions are given on how to obtain a Cossy ID. Simply create an account, then generate a Cossy ID for that account (Click on "I do not own a Card Game ID")

Once done, go to Profile, and the series of numbers below a barcode is your Cossy ID

LART (Lost Art Promotion), depending on availability at store

The Lost Art Promotion is a promotion in the TCG in which the Asian artworks of cards are distributed. Exclusive at OTS Stores only, LARTs are given as rewards for participation in certain events.

Field Center Cards are special non-Deck cards that can be placed in the middle of the field to serve as reference points for the two Extra Monster Zones during a Duel in which the players lack the use of playmats.
