- Best for: Oily, Combination, Sensitive, and Acne-Prone Skin.
- Primary Benefits: Rapidly soothes irritation and reduces visible redness, provides lightweight hydration, and helps improve the appearance of post-acne marks.
- Key Ingredients: Heartleaf Extract, TECA (Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid), Niacinamide, Panthenol.
- Texture: A refreshing, watery serum with visible TECA capsules that melt upon application.
Quick Start (60-second routine) (essentials for beginners)
- Cleanser: Start with a clean base.
- This Serum: Apply 2-3 drops to your face and gently pat in.
- Sunscreen (AM) / Moisturiser (PM): Seal in the serum and protect your skin.
Mindful Consumption Note: If you already have a calming or hydrating serum, consider finishing it before introducing a new one. Substitute, don’t stack, to avoid waste and let your skin adapt.
AM Routine Guide (morning order) (how to use in the morning)
Minimalist Routine (3-4 Steps):
- Cleanser: A gentle wash to start the day.
- This Serum: Apply 2-3 drops onto a dry face to calm and hydrate.
- Moisturiser (Optional): Use only if your skin feels tight or your sunscreen isn't hydrating enough.
- Sunscreen SPF 30+: The most critical step to protect sensitive skin and prevent marks from darkening.
Wait Times: Allow the serum about 30-60 seconds to absorb before applying your next step to prevent pilling.
PM Routine Guide (evening order) (recommended for starting)
Minimalist Routine (3 Steps):
- Cleanser: Double cleanse if you wore makeup or water-resistant sunscreen (oil cleanser first, then a water-based cleanser).
- This Serum: Apply 2-3 drops to help your skin repair and soothe overnight.
- Moisturiser: A light cream to lock in hydration.
Optional Additions: You can use an exfoliant (AHA/BHA) 1-3 times a week, but apply it *before* this calming serum on those nights. Do not mix with strong retinoids on the same night.
How to Use (Beginner-friendly) (amount, frequency, and tips)
- Amount: 2-3 drops (or 1-2 pumps) is sufficient for the entire face.
- Frequency: Gentle enough for daily use, both morning (AM) and evening (PM).
- Method: After cleansing and toning, dispense the serum onto your palms. Gently press and pat it into your skin until the capsules have melted and the serum is absorbed. Avoid rubbing.
If-This / Then-That:
- Feeling extra irritated or hot? This serum provides an immediate cooling effect. Keep it in the fridge for an enhanced soothing sensation.
- Skin is oily but feels tight? Apply this serum on slightly damp skin after toning, then follow with a gel-cream to lock in the hydration.
- Using under makeup? Allow it to fully absorb for a minute before applying sunscreen or primer. This helps create a smooth canvas and reduces the chance of pilling.
Safety: For external use only. Avoid direct contact with eyes. Discontinue use if a rash or irritation occurs. Patch test before first use.
Weekly Planner (Example & Alternating Actives) (how to schedule use)
This is a gentle, daily-use serum designed to support your skin barrier. It can be used every day, morning and night.
- Daily Use: AM and PM, after cleansing and toning, before your moisturiser.
Example Week with Other Actives:
- Mon: AM/PM: This Serum | PM: Add Retinoid

- Wed: AM/PM: This Serum | PM: Add Exfoliant (AHA/BHA)

What to Expect (Results Timeline) (immediate → 8+ weeks)
- Immediately: Skin feels instantly hydrated, refreshed, and cooled. Some visible reduction in superficial redness may occur. (Brand test: skin temperature reduced by -5.97°C after 5 seconds).
- 1-2 Weeks: With consistent use, skin feels calmer and less reactive. Inflammatory blemishes may appear less red and swollen. (Brand test: 27% improvement in general skin troubles after 7 days).
- 4-8+ Weeks: Skin barrier feels stronger and more resilient. The appearance of post-acne marks and other pigmentation may look visibly improved. (Brand test: 10.7% improvement in pigmentation after 7 days).
Individual results can vary. Consistent use, especially with daily sunscreen, is key to achieving the best results.
Myth Replacement (Why this, not that) (safer, effective alternatives)
Why use THIS calming serum, not just any harsh "acne" treatment?
Many traditional acne treatments use high concentrations of alcohol or benzoyl peroxide to "dry out" pimples. While this can seem effective in the short term, it often strips the skin's protective barrier, leading to more irritation, redness, and even rebound oiliness. This serum takes a different approach: it focuses on calming the underlying inflammation and strengthening the skin barrier with ingredients like Heartleaf and TECA. A calm, strong barrier is better equipped to heal and defend against future breakouts, leading to clearer and more comfortable skin in the long run.
Compatibility Guide (layering) (what to pair it with)
- Works Well With: Hyaluronic Acid, Panthenol, Ceramides, Peptides, and gentle hydrators. It's an excellent buffer to use in routines with potentially irritating actives.
- Use Carefully With: Strong retinoids (like Tretinoin) and high-concentration acids (AHA/BHA). Use this serum on alternate nights or as a soothing step *after* an exfoliant has been applied and absorbed to minimize potential irritation.
- Avoid On Area: Do not apply to broken or wounded skin. Avoid direct contact with the eyes.
Skin Type Compatibility (best fits and cautions)
- Oily & Combination: Excellent. The watery texture provides hydration without adding grease or shine.
- Acne-Prone: Highly recommended. It is non-comedogenic and helps soothe the inflammation associated with breakouts.
- Sensitive: Excellent. Specifically formulated to calm irritation and reduce redness. It is free of artificial fragrances and drying alcohols.
- Dry: Good as a hydrating and soothing serum, but it is not a standalone moisturiser. You will need to layer a richer cream on top to lock in the hydration.
- Mature: Good for calming sensitivity, but should be paired with targeted anti-aging ingredients like retinoids or peptides for wrinkle and firmness concerns.

- Redness and flushing
- Skin sensitivity and irritation
- Compromised or damaged skin barrier
- Inflamed acne and breakouts

Full Safety & Patch Test Protocol (important precautions)
Who should use it: Ideal for individuals with sensitive, easily irritated, oily, or acne-prone skin looking for a gentle calming solution.
Who should use with caution: While formulated for sensitivity, those with known allergies to any specific botanical extracts in the INCI list should exercise caution. Fungal-acne prone individuals should note the presence of Isononyl Isononanoate and Saccharomyces Ferment, which can be potential triggers for some; patch testing is strongly advised.
Patch Test Protocol:
- Apply a pea-sized amount to a small, clean area of skin, such as behind your ear or on your inner jawline.
- Wait 24-48 hours to observe for any signs of reaction like redness, itching, or burning.
- If no reaction occurs, the product is likely safe for you to use on your face.

Troubleshooting Guide (fix common issues) (quick solutions)
-
Issue: The little capsules aren't breaking easily.
Fix: Instead of rubbing, dispense the serum into your palms, gently press them together to warm it up, and then pat onto your face. The warmth and gentle pressure will help the capsules melt seamlessly into the skin. -
Issue: I feel a slight warming sensation upon application.
Fix: This is an uncommon reaction but has been reported by a few users with highly sensitive skin. It may be due to the active ingredients stimulating circulation. Try applying it over a simple hydrating toner to buffer the effect, or keep the serum in the fridge for a cooling application. If the sensation is uncomfortable or accompanied by redness, discontinue use. -
Issue: My skin doesn't feel hydrated enough after using it.
Fix: This is a soothing and lightweight hydrating serum, not a heavy moisturiser. For dry skin, it's essential to layer a cream or lotion over it to seal in the moisture.
Climate Fit for Mauritius (local usage advice)
This serum's lightweight, watery texture is perfectly suited for the hot and humid climate of Mauritius. It provides essential hydration and calming benefits without feeling heavy, sticky, or greasy on the skin.
- Humid Summer: It can be used as a primary hydrator for very oily skin types before sunscreen in the morning. For combination or normal skin, it layers beautifully under a light gel-cream.
- Drier Winter/AC Exposure: You may need to layer a more substantial moisturiser on top to prevent dehydration from air conditioning or the less humid winter air.

- A fair caveat from a user with a darker skin tone and dry, sensitive skin: "While it may not dramatically fade dark spots for deeper skin tones, it excels at calming redness, reinforcing the barrier, and keeping irritation under control." They found it worked well to reduce irritation during colder months and pre-period breakouts. (Independent Blog Review, 2025)
- A user with very sensitive, acne-prone skin mentioned a "warming sensation" upon application and felt it was "just okay," advising those with super sensitive skin to patch test first. (Hwahae review, 2024)

Frequently Asked Questions (your questions, answered)
- Can I use this serum if I have active acne?
- Yes, absolutely. This serum is non-comedogenic and its primary function is to calm inflammation, which is a key factor in acne. It can help reduce the redness and discomfort of active breakouts.
- Is this serum hydrating enough to be my only moisturiser?
- For very oily skin types in a humid climate, it might provide enough lightweight hydration for daytime use before sunscreen. However, for most skin types (especially normal, combination, or dry), it should be followed by a separate moisturiser to properly lock in hydration.
- What is the difference between this and the SKIN1004 Centella Ampoule?
- The SKIN1004 Ampoule is a minimalist formula containing 100% Centella Asiatica Extract for pure soothing and hydration. The Abib serum is a multi-ingredient formula that combines Heartleaf Extract with the TECA complex (purified Centella molecules) and adds other beneficial ingredients like Niacinamide and Succinic Acid to also target pores, oil control, and post-acne marks.
- Why are there capsules in the serum?
- The capsules contain the TECA (Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid). Encapsulating these active ingredients helps to protect their stability and ensure they are delivered fresh to the skin upon application.
The Final Verdict (At-a-Glance) (summary of pros and cons)
Best For: Those with sensitive, oily, or acne-prone skin seeking a fast-acting, lightweight serum to reduce redness, calm irritation, and support the skin barrier in a hot climate.
Key Benefits:
- Provides immediate cooling and soothing relief.
- Visibly reduces redness and inflammation associated with breakouts and sensitivity.
- Hydrates without stickiness and strengthens the skin barrier over time.
Keep in Mind:
- It may not be hydrating enough for very dry skin types when used alone.
- Its brightening effect on deep, long-standing hyperpigmentation may be gradual and less dramatic than targeted acid treatments.
- Not guaranteed to be "fungal acne safe" for everyone; patch testing is advised.
