ROUND LAB CAMELLIA DEEP COLLAGEN FIRMING SUN SERUM 50ML
ROUND LAB Camellia Deep Collagen Firming Sun Serum (50ml) is an SPF50+ PA++++ chemical sunscreen-serum hybrid built on Ethylhexyl Triazone and Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid as UV filters, layered with the brand's "Camellia Collagenolβ’" complex and a low dose of the retinoid ester Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (HPR). It applies as a lightweight, lotion-like fluid with brand-marketed micro-cooling capsules for heat comfort β genuinely useful for daily wear in Mauritius sun. This product contains a retinoid (HPR) which is contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing β if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, do not purchase this product; see the Safety section below for verified pregnancy-safe sunscreen alternatives.
Important Safety Notice:
This product contains Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (HPR), a retinoid ester, which is contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, do not purchase this product. See the Safety section below for safe alternatives.
At-a-Glance (Is this for you?)

| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Brand | ROUND LAB |
| Product Type | Chemical sunscreen-serum hybrid with retinoid ester |
| Net Volume | 50ml |
| Key Ingredients | Ethylhexyl Triazone, Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid, Camellia Collagenol (Camellia Extract + Quercetin + Inositol), Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, Sodium Hyaluronate |
| Skin Types | Normal, dry, mature; caution for retinoid-naive or reactive skin |
| Primary Concern | Daily UV protection + firming/elasticity support |
| AM Suitability | Daily, non-negotiable final step (with the caveats below) |
| Routine Complexity | Moderate (contains a retinoid in an AM sunscreen β an unusual combination) |
| MFDS Classification | Functional Cosmetic by default for SPF products in Korea; specific registration not independently confirmed |
Wanting sun protection and a firming treatment without adding a fourth step to your morning routine is the appeal here β this product is unusual in combining a real UV filter set with a genuine retinoid-pathway ingredient in one AM step, which is not the typical retinoid/sunscreen relationship (retinoids are normally a PM-only recommendation).
Pros: genuinely lightweight, no white cast per multiple independent reviews, hydrating enough that some reviewers skip a separate moisturizer in summer, real UV filters plus a real retinoid-pathway ingredient in one step. Caveats: contains a retinoid ester used in an AM/daily product, which is unusual β retinoids are typically more effective and lower-risk applied PM; not for pregnancy/nursing; exact HPR and Camellia extract concentrations not disclosed for this format.
Age and Tween Suitability (Parental Guide)
Classification: RED β not for under 16. This product contains a retinoid (Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate) targeting collagen-signaling processes relevant to mature, photoaged skin.
Safe alternatives verified in-catalog: ROUND LAB 1025 Dokdo Sunscreen or SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Air-Fit Suncream Light (no retinoid).
Quick Start (60-Second Essentials)
Step 1 (When): Every morning, as the final skincare step, 10-15 minutes before sun exposure or makeup. Step 2 (How much): Two fingers' worth for the face (~1.25ml). Step 3 (How): Pat/press into skin rather than rubbing.
Introduce this as the ONLY new product in your routine. Wait a full 14 days before adding anything else. This isolation window ensures you can identify whether any reaction is caused by this specific product.
AM Routine Guide (Morning sequence)
1) Cleanser β 2) Toner β 3) Antioxidant serum (optional) β 4) Moisturizer (optional β reviewers report this product can substitute for moisturizer in humid summer conditions) β 5) Camellia Deep Collagen Firming Sun Serum (final step, non-negotiable).
Mandatory SPF statement: this product is the sunscreen step itself β it does not replace a separate SPF elsewhere in the routine, it is that step.
PM Routine Guide (Evening sequence)
Not applicable as a PM product β sunscreen is an AM-only, UV-exposure step. In the evening, double-cleanse to fully remove the film-forming filters and retinoid residue before the rest of your PM routine.
Retinoid-lane note: because this contains HPR, avoid also running the Camellia Ampoule or Cream (same retinoid ingredient) heavily the same day if you're new to the line β the cumulative daily retinoid exposure adds up across products even though each individual dose is modest.
How to Use (Amounts, technique, and tips)
| Area | Amount |
|---|---|
| Face | Two full finger-lengths (~1.25ml) |
| Neck | One additional finger-length |
Squeeze a line of sunscreen along your index and middle fingers. This is approximately 1.25ml β the amount needed for your face alone.
Technique: pat/press into skin rather than rubbing. Wait time: 10-15 minutes before sun exposure or makeup. Reapplication: every 2 hours of continuous sun exposure.
Routine Encyclopedia (Where every product type fits)
This is an encyclopedia map of all product types. You do not use all of these daily. You select modules based on your skin state.
Global execution rules: sunscreen is always the final AM step, 10-15 minutes before sun/makeup. If a routine pills, stings, or feels heavy, reduce layers.
AM Maximum Stack: 1. Cleanse (optional) β 2. Toner (optional) β 3. Antioxidant/hydration serum (optional, non-conflicting) β 4. Moisturizer (optional given this product's hydrating base) β 5. Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ (non-negotiable, this product) β 6. Lip SPF (optional). In AM, prioritize comfort and SPF adherence over stacking β in high humidity, fewer layers often perform better.
Viscosity and Layering Science (Where it fits)
A lightweight, lotion-like fluid β always the last skincare layer applied, before makeup.
Phase compatibility: chemical-filter emulsion. Avoid layering another heavy silicone or occlusive product directly on top, which can cause pilling.
What to Expect (Results timeline)
| Phase | Timeframe | What You Will Notice |
|---|---|---|
| Immediate | 0-15 min | A slightly sticky feel while filters set, per one reviewer, resolving within about 5 minutes |
| Daily | Every application | UV protection active only from full drydown, not from the moment of application |
| Weeks-Months | Consistent daily use | Reduced visible photoaging progression; any firming contribution from the retinoid ester accumulates gradually alongside consistent SPF use |
Who Should Use This (Clinical triage)
| Status | Guidance |
|---|---|
| PROCEED IF | No known chemical-filter sensitivity, not pregnant/nursing, wants combined SPF + mild firming support |
| PAUSE IF | Currently onboarding a separate PM retinoid and want to isolate variables first |
| STOP/CONSULT IF | Known chemical-filter or retinoid allergy, pregnant/nursing, active eczema flare |
Skin Type Compatibility
| Skin Type | Compatibility | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Normal/Dry/Mature | Good | Hydrating base suits these profiles; some reviewers skip moisturizer entirely in summer |
| Oily/Combination | Good | Lightweight, non-greasy per multiple reviews |
| Sensitive/Reactive | Caution | Both the chemical filters and the retinoid ester carry more individual-sensitivity variance than a plain mineral sunscreen |
Targeted Concerns (What it treats)
UV protection: the filter combination covers UVA and UVB at SPF50+ PA++++. Firming/elasticity: HPR contributes retinoid-pathway signaling; brand markets this alongside Camellia Collagenol (Camellia extract + Quercetin + Inositol) for elasticity support.
What this product cannot do: it cannot reverse existing sun damage; the retinoid dose in a daily sunscreen format is unlikely to match the cumulative effect of a dedicated PM retinoid product used consistently.
Best Paired With (Synergistic pairings)
Primary pick β PM retinoid-lane product from the same line for cumulative firming: ROUND LAB Camellia Deep Collagen Firming Ampoule (PM only, do not layer HPR products same-day beyond this sunscreen and one PM product). Alternatives: ROUND LAB Camellia Deep Collagen Firming Cream.
Primary pick β toner to layer earlier in the routine: ROUND LAB 1025 Dokdo Toner. Alternatives: ROUND LAB 1025 Dokdo Pad, APLB Glutathione Niacinamide Facial Toner.
Pilling pairs: heavy silicone primers or a second occlusive layer applied on top can cause pilling; let the full 10-15 minute set time pass before makeup.
This is a conflict-solver for ACTIVE ingredients
If you run multiple actives, use these rules to avoid irritation, deactivation, and barrier damage.
One Active Lane per routine: this sunscreen contains a retinoid (HPR) β treat your total daily HPR exposure (this product plus any Camellia Ampoule/Cream/Gel Mask use) as one combined retinoid lane, not separate allowances.
Γ Separate PM retinoid same day: using this AM sunscreen plus a full-dose PM retinoid product from the same Camellia line on the same day increases cumulative exposure β moderate frequency (e.g. skip the PM product on days you feel any tingling from this sunscreen).
Barrier override: if moisturizer stings or skin feels tight within 30 minutes of cleansing, pause all actives (including this sunscreen's retinoid content, if tolerable substitute with a non-retinoid sunscreen temporarily) and run barrier-only for 3-7 days.
Myth Replacement (Common misconceptions)
MYTH: "A sunscreen with retinoid ingredients is just marketing hype with no real activity." REALITY: HPR is a genuine retinoid-pathway ingredient regardless of the product format it's delivered in β the format (AM sunscreen vs. PM serum) affects dosing strategy, not whether the ingredient is real.
MYTH: "You should never put a retinoid in the sun." REALITY: modern retinoid esters like HPR are more photostable than pure retinol, and this product's own filters provide UV protection alongside it β but daily SPF and reapplication remain essential regardless.
Climate Fit for Mauritius
| Season | Conditions | Adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| Summer (Dec-Mar) | Intense direct UV | Reapply every 2 hours if outdoors; this product's hydrating base means many users skip a separate moisturizer this season |
| Winter (Jun-Sep) | Still strong tropical UV year-round | Daily use remains non-negotiable |
| Cyclone Season (Jan-Mar) | High humidity, intermittent sun | The brand-marketed micro-cooling capsules are a genuine comfort feature in this kind of heat |
Sugar cane burning season (July-November) increases airborne PM2.5, which can adhere to a slightly tacky sunscreen film during the first few minutes of drydown β cleanse thoroughly in the evening.
Wudu and Prayer Compatibility
Permeability: Film-Forming (uncertain).
As a chemical sunscreen, this product is designed to form an even film across skin to deliver its stated SPF50+ protection β that same film-forming behavior is what creates genuine uncertainty about water reaching the skin surface during wudu, more so than a typical serum or toner.
Removal method: if you need certainty before prayer, cleanse the treated area with a gentle cleanser or micellar water first, then reapply sunscreen afterward if you'll be back in the sun β remember this resets your reapplication clock.
Adilsons provides this assessment based on the product's physical properties. Rulings on wudu validity vary between scholars. Consult your own trusted Islamic authority.
SPF Truth Box
| Filter | Type | UVA/UVB |
|---|---|---|
| Ethylhexyl Triazone | Chemical | UVB |
| Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid | Chemical | UVA |
Broad spectrum: this filter combination is designed to cover UVA and UVB. White cast: none reported β multiple independent reviews describe zero white cast and even a flattering pink tint to the formula. Eye sting risk: chemical filters carry a higher eye-sting risk than mineral zinc oxide when sweat carries them into the eye area, though one reviewer specifically reported no stinging even applied close to the eyes.
Reapply every 2 hours of sun exposure. A full day outdoors in Mauritius requires 3-4 reapplications. Reef safety: no oxybenzone or octinoxate detected in the declared filter list, though this was not independently certified.

The complete trailing ingredient list past the named filters and marketed actives could not be fully confirmed via WebSearch snippet alone β treat anything not named above as not independently itemized this run rather than complete. No estimated 1% line marker is placed given the incomplete list.
Allergens and Fragrance Disclosure
Fragrance status: no Fragrance/Parfum entry was found in the aggregated ingredient snippets checked this pass, but the full trailing list was not completely confirmed β treat as likely-free rather than certain. One reviewer specifically noted the product is scentless.
EU 26 allergen screen: none of the classic named allergens appeared in the confirmed portion of the INCI.
Conscious and Permissible Formulation
Halal: *Self-assessed by Adilsons based on available INCI data. No ethanol from fermentation, no porcine-derived ingredients, and no haram animal-derived ingredients detected in the confirmed portion of the declared ingredient list. This is NOT a formal Halal certification.
Vegan: *Self-assessed by Adilsons based on available INCI data. No animal-derived ingredients detected in the confirmed portion of the list β unlike the sibling Ampoule/Cream/Gel Mask, no Hydrolyzed or Soluble Collagen was found in this Sun Serum's confirmed ingredient portion. This is NOT a formal vegan certification.
Cruelty-Free: ROUND LAB's cruelty-free status carries genuinely conflicting third-party reporting.* *Not presented as a resolved claim either way.
Reef safety: no oxybenzone or octinoxate found in the declared filter list, though not independently certified. Microplastic-Free: likely yes based on the confirmed ingredient portion.
Evidence, Regulation and Claims
MFDS classification: sunscreens are Functional Cosmetics by default under Korean regulation β the specific registration number for this exact SKU was not independently found. Evidence confidence: High for the general filter mechanism; Medium for the exact SPF50+/PA++++ figure, cross-referenced from aggregated retailer copy; Emerging for the "Camellia Collagenol" marketing complex's specific claims.
Sensory and Chemical Profile
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Texture | Lightweight, lotion-like fluid |
| Finish | Soft, glowy β a flattering pink tint per one independent review |
| Film Formation | Yes β a light, even film typical of chemical-filter sunscreens |
Fungal Acne Safety: not fully assessed this pass given the incomplete trailing INCI β treat as unconfirmed rather than assuming safe.
Pilling Risk and Texture Mechanics
Assessment: Low, per reviewer reports of a smooth, non-pilling application. Standard mitigation still applies: let any prior moisturizer fully absorb first.
Stability, Spoilage and Oxidation
Fresh appearance is a light-pink-tinted lotion per reviewer descriptions; separation into distinct layers that won't remix, or a rancid smell, are spoilage signs. Store away from direct sun and bathroom heat.
When in doubt, discard rather than risk reduced UV protection from a degraded formula.
Safety and Patch Test Protocol
Patch test on the inner forearm for 24 hours, then behind the ear for 24 hours, before full-face use β this matters more given both the chemical filters and the retinoid ester present.
72-hour barrier reset: if adverse reaction occurs, STOP ALL ACTIVES. For 72 hours, use ONLY gentle cleanser + plain moisturizer + a non-retinoid mineral SPF. After 72h, reintroduce ONE product per 14 days.
Emergency stop signals: hives, swelling, blistering, persistent burning, breathing difficulty β seek emergency care.
Pregnancy alternatives (verified in-catalog, no retinoid): ROUND LAB 1025 Dokdo Sunscreen, ROUND LAB Birch Juice Mild-Up Sunscreen (mineral).
Troubleshooting Guide
| If You Experience | Likely Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Slight stickiness in first 5 minutes | Normal drydown for this texture, per reviewer reports | Wait the full absorption time before makeup |
| Breakouts after starting | Possible reaction to a filter or the retinoid ester | Patch test isolate; discontinue if it persists past 4-6 weeks |
| Increased sun sensitivity | Expected retinoid effect | Reapply diligently, avoid peak sun hours if possible |
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Applying too thin a layer (under-dosing reduces effective SPF); skipping reapplication during a full day outdoors; running a full-dose PM retinoid from the same line on the same day without accounting for the cumulative HPR exposure from this sunscreen.
Overuse threshold: not applicable in the sunscreen sense β daily reapplication every 2 hours during sun exposure is correct, not an overuse risk.
Usage Economics (How long it lasts)
At the correct two-finger dose (~1.25ml) per application, a 50ml bottle provides roughly 40 face-only applications. Used once daily, that's approximately 5-6 weeks; adding neck coverage and reapplications on outdoor days will shorten that window.
Consider reordering about 2 weeks before you expect the bottle to run out.
Complete Your Routine (Exact routine + pairings)
This sunscreen is the final, non-negotiable AM step β its job is UV protection with a secondary firming contribution, not a substitute for a dedicated PM firming product if consistent results are your goal.
If you also use the Camellia Ampoule or Cream at PM, you're getting HPR twice daily across your routine β that's fine for most users but worth monitoring for any increased sensitivity. If you have reactive/eczema-prone skin, consider a mineral, non-retinoid sunscreen instead. If summer humidity makes a separate moisturizer feel like too much, this product's hydrating base can reasonably stand alone per multiple reviewer reports.
Bundle β Camellia Firming Routine: 1025 Dokdo Cleanser β Camellia Firming Ampoule (PM) β Camellia Firming Sun Serum (AM).
After purchasing, you will receive our skincare education email series covering this product in depth. The recommendations above are based on formulation synergy with this sunscreen, not on margin or stock levels. If a pairing does not exist in our catalog, we say so. If you already own a product that fills the same role, use what you have first.
Is This the Best Choice? (Mindful alternatives)
If you want a sunscreen with no retinoid content at all, ROUND LAB 1025 Dokdo Sunscreen uses the same core filter chemistry without HPR. ROUND LAB Birch Juice Mild-Up Sunscreen is a mineral (zinc-oxide-only) alternative for sensitive skin. SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Air-Fit Suncream Light is a third mineral option.
The No-Buy Redundancy Check
This product's PRIMARY function is: daily broad-spectrum UV protection with a secondary retinoid-pathway firming contribution. You do NOT need this if you already have an unfinished, unexpired daily facial sunscreen β finish that one first.
Stacking assessment: No Benefit from owning two daily facial sunscreens at once; Significant Benefit if you want to consolidate SPF and a mild firming step into one product.
Phased Onboarding (Safe introduction schedule)
Quick version: Week 1 β patch test, then use every other day and monitor. Week 2 β move to daily use, since this product's SPF role requires daily wear regardless of the retinoid content. Ongoing β track total daily HPR exposure if also using a PM Camellia-line product. If irritation appears, switch temporarily to a non-retinoid mineral sunscreen and use the 72-Hour Barrier Reset above.
| Phase | Duration | Frequency | Amount | Monitoring |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Introduction | Week 1 | Every other day | Two-finger rule (~1.25ml) | Watch for tingling or a sting-heavy drydown beyond the first 5 minutes |
| Building Tolerance | Week 2 | Daily (required for SPF adherence) | Two-finger rule (~1.25ml) | Confirm no cumulative sensitivity from daily retinoid exposure |
| Maintenance | Week 3+ | Daily, non-negotiable | Two-finger rule, reapplied every 2 hours outdoors | Reassess only whether daily SPF habit is being maintained β this is a protection step first, a firming step second |
This product must be introduced as the ONLY new product. Wait 14 days before adding anything else β practically, this means holding off on introducing a separate PM Camellia-line retinoid product during your first two weeks with this sunscreen.
Retinization note: because this format is diluted into a daily sunscreen rather than a concentrated PM treatment, adjustment symptoms are typically milder than the Ampoule or Cream β but they are not absent, and the same reduce-frequency-first principle applies if they occur.

About ROUND LAB
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Brand Name | ROUND LAB |
| Founded | 2017, South Korea (per consistently-cited retailer/brand-overview sources) |
| Headquarters | South Korea (specific address not publicly confirmed) |
| Camellia Line | A newer (2025) firming sub-line built around Jeju Camellia Japonica flower extract and hydrolyzed collagen; this sun serum is the line's SPF entry |
ROUND LAB's Camellia Deep Collagen line spans multiple formats (ampoule, cream, gel mask, and this sun serum), unusually combining a retinoid-pathway ingredient (HPR) with daily SPF in the same product β a departure from the brand's earlier hydration-only positioning.
Genuine Community Experiences
Independent review coverage for this exact sun serum was found on two dedicated K-beauty review blogs. HIKOCO/KHERBLOG described it as "not a typical sunscreen" β a lightweight formula with no white cast, a beautiful pink shade, and no scent, calling it their favorite SPF from the brand. Beauty Detective's review described a lightweight, lotion-like texture with a soft, glowy finish, gentle enough to apply close to the eyes without stinging or watering, and hydrating enough to skip a separate moisturizer in summer.
Common praise: genuinely lightweight, no white cast, comfortable near the eyes, good hydration for a sunscreen format. Complaint themes: none specifically noted in the reviews found this pass β findable coverage skewed positive, though this was from only two independent review sources rather than a broad community sample, so treat as a smaller-sample signal.
Packaging and Practical Details

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use this while pregnant? No β it contains a retinoid ester (HPR), contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing.
Does it leave a white cast? No β independent reviews consistently report no white cast and a pleasant pink-tinted finish.
Can I skip moisturizer and just use this? Some reviewers do in summer given its hydrating base, though dry skin may still want a separate moisturizer, especially in AC.
Is it the same as the plain 1025 Dokdo Sunscreen? No β this Camellia version adds the retinoid-pathway HPR and Camellia Collagenol complex on top of a similar core UV-filter chemistry.
Should I also use the Camellia Ampoule if I use this daily? Optional β using both means daily HPR exposure from two products, which is fine for most tolerant users but worth reducing frequency on either if you notice increased sensitivity.

The Final Verdict
Best for: non-pregnant adults wanting a genuinely lightweight, no-white-cast SPF50+ with a bonus firming-pathway ingredient in one AM step. Not for pregnancy/nursing, under-16s, or those specifically wanting a retinoid-free sunscreen.
Key benefits: real UV filters plus a real retinoid-pathway ingredient in one step, consistently positive independent review coverage, hydrating enough to potentially skip a separate moisturizer in summer.
Keep in mind: daily retinoid exposure via a sunscreen format is unusual β track your total HPR exposure if also using other Camellia-line products; exact HPR/Camellia concentrations not disclosed; full trailing INCI not completely confirmed.
