ROUND LAB Birch Juice Moisturizing Serum (50ml) is a lightweight hydration serum built around Betula Alba (Birch) Juice alongside a triple-hyaluronic-acid complex (Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed HA, HA), Beta-Glucan, and Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate (licorice-derived, calming). It's a watery-to-light-gel texture designed to hydrate without the heaviness that can feel unbearable in Mauritius humidity, absorbing quickly enough to layer under a moisturizer without pilling. Not for anyone expecting a meaningful Vitamin C brightening effect โ€” the Ascorbic Acid here sits at a trace concentration used mainly to stabilize the formula, not to deliver a brightening dose.

Attribute Detail
Brand ROUND LAB
Product Type Hydration serum
Net Volume 50ml
Key Ingredients Birch Sap, Triple Hyaluronic Acid, Beta-Glucan, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate
Skin Types All, including sensitive and dehydrated-oily skin
Primary Concern Hydration and mild barrier/calming support
AM/PM Suitability Both
Routine Complexity Straightforward
MFDS Classification General Cosmetic (no functional registration found)

If your skin is oily on the surface but tight and uncomfortable underneath, that's the dehydrated-oily paradox โ€” a lightweight hydration serum like this addresses the actual dehydration without adding the heaviness that a rich cream would, which often makes surface oiliness worse over time by encouraging more stripping.

Pros: genuinely lightweight, multi-molecular-weight HA for layered hydration, licorice-derived calming ingredient with real anti-inflammatory backing, fast absorption suited to humid climates. Caveats: the marketed Vitamin C is present at a trace, stabilizing-only concentration, not a brightening dose; peer-reviewed clinical data on topical birch sap specifically (as opposed to its general phytochemical profile) is limited; contains Hydrogenated Lecithin, which some sources flag as an FA-conditional ingredient.

Low-Energy and Burnout Viability (For tough days)

Compatibility checklist: bedside-compatible (no sink needed) โ€” yes; requires rinsing โ€” no; requires precise dosage โ€” no, a rough 2-3 drops is forgiving; usable with unwashed hands โ€” yes, a dropper/pump avoids finger contact; requires wait time โ€” a brief 30-60 seconds, skippable in a pinch; can be a single-product routine โ€” yes, on a night you can't manage more than one step.

Minimum viable routine position: this serum qualifies as one of the two or three products in a bare-bones routine (cleanser optional, this serum, moisturizer) when executive function is low โ€” it delivers real hydration with almost no technique required.

Sensory aversion check: the light-fluid texture has no tackiness or heaviness that would discourage use even when touch-sensitivity or texture aversion is high on a difficult day.

Quick Start (60-Second Essentials)

Step 1 (When): AM and PM, after toner. Step 2 (How much): 2-3 drops or 1 pump. Step 3 (How): Press gently into skin; wait 30-60 seconds before moisturizer.

Introduce this as the ONLY new product in your routine. Wait a full 14 days before adding anything else. This isolation window ensures you can identify whether any reaction is caused by this specific product.

AM Routine Guide (Morning sequence)

1) Cleanser โ†’ 2) Toner โ†’ 3) Birch Juice Moisturizing Serum โ†’ 4) Moisturizer โ†’ 5) Sunscreen.

In Mauritius's humid mornings, this serum's humectant HA complex draws water from the humid air itself, an advantage over drier climates where the same molecules pull from your own deeper skin layers instead.

PM Routine Guide (Evening sequence)

1) Double cleanse โ†’ 2) Toner โ†’ 3) Birch Juice Moisturizing Serum โ†’ 4) Moisturizer.

As a hydration-lane product with no exfoliating or retinoid actives, it needs no rotation in a skin-cycling schedule and can be used every single night without restriction.

How to Use (Amounts, technique, and tips)
Area Amount
Full face 2-3 drops or 1 pump; +1 drop for the neck

Technique: pat/press into skin rather than rubbing. Wait time: 30-60 seconds before moisturizer. Skin state: apply to slightly damp skin post-toner for best absorption.

Routine Encyclopedia (Where every product type fits)

This is an encyclopedia map of all product types. You do not use all of these daily. You select modules based on your skin state.

Global execution rules: viscosity ladder thinnest to thickest, water-phase before oil-phase; wait-time defaults 10-20s watery layers, 30-60s serums, 10-15 min before sunscreen; default amounts 5-8 drops toner, 2-3 drops serum, 1-2 peas cream, two-finger rule sunscreen. If a routine pills, stings, or feels heavy, reduce layers.

AM Maximum Stack: 1. Rinse/Gentle Cleanse (optional) โ†’ 2. pH-Prep Toner (optional) โ†’ 3. Hydrating Toner Layers (optional) โ†’ 4. Essence (optional) โ†’ 5. Mist (optional) โ†’ 6. Booster/Soothing Serum (optional) โ†’ 7. Antioxidant Lane (optional โ€” this product's trace Vitamin C doesn't fill this lane meaningfully) โ†’ 8. Pigment Support Lane (optional) โ†’ 9. Hydration Serum Lane โ€” this product's slot โ†’ 10. Oil-Control Lane (optional) โ†’ 11. Peptide/Repair Lane (optional) โ†’ 12. Eye Cream (optional) โ†’ 13. Moisturizer โ†’ 14. Optional Sealing Layer (dry/AC only) โ†’ 15. Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ (non-negotiable) โ†’ 16. Lip SPF (optional).

PM Maximum Stack: 1. Micellar pre-cleanse (optional) โ†’ 2. Oil Cleanser/Balm (if SPF/makeup) โ†’ 3. Water Cleanser โ†’ 4. pH-Prep Toner โ†’ 5. Hydrating Toner Layers โ†’ 6. Essence โ†’ 7. Soothing Serum โ†’ 8. Anchor active/treatment โ†’ 9. Hydration Serum Lane โ€” this product's slot โ†’ 10. Moisturizer โ†’ 11. Sleeping Mask (optional) โ†’ 12. Occlusive Seal (optional) โ†’ 13. Spot Treatment (as needed) โ†’ 14. Lip Sleeping Mask (optional). Do not layer retinoids with AHA/BHA in the same night; keep "one lane" per night.

Viscosity and Layering Science (Where it fits)

This is a light-fluid serum โ€” thicker than a toner, thinner than a gel-cream โ€” applied after toner/essence and before moisturizer.

Phase compatibility: water-phase humectant serum with a small amount of Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (a light ester, not a heavy oil). Layers cleanly under most moisturizers without pilling.

What to Expect (Results timeline)
Phase Timeframe What You Will Notice
Immediate 0-24h Immediate plumping/hydration sensation, no tingling expected
Adjustment Week 1-2 None expected โ€” this is a gentle formula; discontinue if burning persists beyond 30 seconds
Turnover Week 4-6 More consistent hydration between applications if paired with a sealing moisturizer
Maintenance Ongoing Results plateau at consistent hydration โ€” using more than the recommended amount does not add further gains
Who Should Use This (Clinical triage)
Status Guidance
PROCEED IF Any skin type wanting a lightweight daily hydration step, including dehydrated-oily skin
PAUSE IF Currently purging from another new active and want to isolate variables
STOP/CONSULT IF Known allergy to any listed ingredient, particularly lecithin-derived ingredients
Skin Type Compatibility
Skin Type Compatibility Notes
Dehydrated-oily Excellent Addresses the underlying dehydration without adding heaviness
Dry Good Layer a richer moisturizer on top to seal
Sensitive Good Licorice-derived Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate has real calming backing
Fungal-acne-prone Caution Hydrogenated Lecithin is flagged as FA-conditional by some community sources
Targeted Concerns (What it treats)

Hydration: the triple-HA complex (three different molecular weights) hydrates at multiple skin depths simultaneously โ€” Sodium Hyaluronate and Hydrolyzed HA penetrate more superficially, while larger HA molecules sit on the surface. Calming: Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate (a licorice root derivative) has a well-documented anti-inflammatory mechanism.

What this product cannot do: it cannot deliver a meaningful Vitamin C brightening effect at the concentration present, cannot treat active acne, and is not an exfoliant.

Best Paired With (Synergistic pairings)

Primary pick โ€” moisturizer to seal this serum's hydration: ROUND LAB Mugwort Calming Cream. Alternatives: ROUND LAB Soybean Nourishing Cream, ROUND LAB Camellia Deep Collagen Firming Cream, ROUND LAB Baby Mild Cream.

Primary pick โ€” matching sunscreen from the same sub-line: ROUND LAB Birch Juice Moisturizing Tone Up Sunscreen. Alternatives: ROUND LAB Birch Juice Mild-Up Sunscreen, ROUND LAB 1025 Dokdo Sunscreen.

Pilling pairs: unlikely given the light texture; if pilling occurs, ensure the prior toner layer has fully absorbed before applying this serum.

Myth Replacement (Common misconceptions)

MYTH: "If Vitamin C is on the ingredient list, the product delivers a brightening effect." REALITY: at a trace, stabilizing-only concentration (below the estimated 1% line here), Ascorbic Acid contributes to formula stability, not a meaningful brightening dose โ€” check the ingredient's position in the list, not just its presence.

MYTH: "Birch sap is a well-studied clinical ingredient like niacinamide or hyaluronic acid." REALITY: its general phytochemical profile (amino acids, organic acids, minerals) is documented, but peer-reviewed clinical studies specifically on topical birch sap in skincare are limited โ€” treat brand claims about it with appropriate caution.

Wudu and Prayer Compatibility

Permeability: Water-Permeable (wudu-compatible).

This serum's water-phase, humectant base (glycerin, HA complex) with only a small amount of Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride absorbs into skin rather than sitting on top as a water-blocking film โ€” water from wudu should reach the skin normally once the serum has absorbed, roughly 30-60 seconds after application.

Adilsons provides this assessment based on the product's physical properties. Rulings on wudu validity vary between scholars. Consult your own trusted Islamic authority.

Climate Fit for Mauritius
Season Conditions Adjustment
Summer (Dec-Mar) High heat/humidity Use as-is; the lightweight texture won't feel heavy
Winter (Jun-Sep) Cooler, drier air Layer 2 applications, or follow with a richer moisturizer
Cyclone Season (Jan-Mar) High humidity swings Fine as-is outdoors; see the AC note below for long indoor stretches

AC environment warning: in air-conditioned environments, the HA complex can pull moisture from your deeper skin layers instead of the air. Always seal this serum with a moisturizer when spending extended time in AC. Mauritius tap water hardness varies by region; this serum's humectant formula helps counteract post-cleanse tightness from hard water.

Complete Ingredient Transparency
Ingredient Evidence Grade Mechanism Source
Betula Alba (Birch) Juice Traditional/Emerging* Brand-marketed hydration/mineral source Plant
Sodium Hyaluronate + Hydrolyzed HA + HA Strong Multi-molecular-weight humectant hydration Fermentation-derived
Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate Strong Anti-inflammatory, calming Plant (licorice root derivative)
Beta-Glucan Moderate Barrier support, soothing Fermentation-derived
Ascorbic Acid Fairy Dusting* At this trace concentration, functions as a formula stabilizer/antioxidant booster, not a brightening dose Synthetic

*Emerging: peer-reviewed clinical data specifically on topical birch sap is limited. *Fairy Dusting: Ascorbic Acid appears below the estimated 1% line in the INCI list (independently corroborated at roughly 0.55-0.80% by a third-party analysis), suggesting it is present at a trace/sub-efficacious concentration for brightening purposes โ€” its inclusion likely serves a stabilizing/marketing role rather than a clinical one.

Full INCI (aggregated from third-party ingredient-listing sites; direct WebFetch to incidecoder.com/skinsignal.com blocked in this environment, so treat as medium-confidence): Purified Water, Methylpropanediol, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Polyglycerin-3, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Birch Sap, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glyceryl Glucoside, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Butylene Glycol, [--- Estimated 1% Line ---] Hyaluronic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Beta-Glucan, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Ethylhexylglycerin, and additional plant extracts per a stated 40-ingredient formula, not fully itemized this pass.

Preservative system: 1,2-Hexanediol and Ethylhexylglycerin form a paraben-free, glycol-based preservative-booster pair.

Allergens and Fragrance Disclosure

Fragrance status: no Fragrance/Parfum entry or named essential oil found in the aggregated INCI checked this pass. EU 26 allergen screen: none detected in the confirmed portion.

Alcohol disclosure: Alcohol-Free โ€” no ethanol or denatured alcohol found; Methylpropanediol is a glycol solvent, not a drying alcohol.

Conscious and Permissible Formulation

Halal: *Self-assessed by Adilsons based on available INCI data. No ethanol from fermentation, no porcine-derived ingredients, and no haram animal-derived ingredients detected in the declared ingredient list checked this pass. This is NOT a formal Halal certification.

Vegan: *Self-assessed by Adilsons based on available INCI data. Hydrogenated Lecithin is most commonly soy or sunflower-derived in modern cosmetic formulation, not animal-derived, though the exact botanical source for this SKU was not independently confirmed. This is NOT a formal vegan certification.

Cruelty-Free: ROUND LAB's cruelty-free status carries genuinely conflicting third-party reporting.* *Not presented as a resolved claim either way.

Microplastic-Free: Yes โ€” no microplastic-associated polymer found in the confirmed portion of the declared INCI.

Evidence, Regulation and Claims

MFDS classification: General Cosmetic โ€” no evidence found of Functional Cosmetic registration for this SKU. Evidence confidence: High for the HA complex and Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate (well-established ingredient classes); Low-Marketing-Only* for the specific brightening angle sometimes implied by the presence of Vitamin C, given its trace concentration.

*One third-party analysis (What's In My Jar) independently estimated the Ascorbic Acid concentration at 0.55-0.80%, corroborating the fairy-dusting assessment above.

Fungal Acne Safety: FA-Conditional โ€” Hydrogenated Lecithin is flagged by some FA-safety community sources as a potential conditional trigger; patch test if managing active fungal acne.

Pilling Risk and Texture Mechanics

Assessment: Low. This light-fluid serum layers cleanly under most moisturizers; ensure the prior toner step has absorbed fully to minimize any risk.

Stability, Spoilage and Oxidation

Fresh appearance is a clear-to-slightly-translucent light gel. If it develops an off/sour smell, visible cloudiness, or separation that doesn't remix with shaking, discard it โ€” the trace Vitamin C content can also darken slightly with air/light exposure over time, which is a normal early sign to watch for, not necessarily spoilage on its own.

Store away from direct sunlight and excessive bathroom heat/humidity. When in doubt, discard.

Safety and Patch Test Protocol

Patch test on the inner forearm for 24 hours before full facial use. If adverse reaction occurs: stop all actives, use only a gentle cleanser and plain moisturizer for 72 hours, then reintroduce one product per 14 days.

Emergency stop signals: hives, swelling, blistering, persistent burning, or breathing difficulty โ€” seek emergency care.

Troubleshooting Guide
If You Experience Likely Cause Solution
No brightening effect despite Vitamin C on the label Trace, sub-efficacious concentration Pair with a dedicated brightening serum (higher-dose Vitamin C or niacinamide) for that goal
Feels tacky Too much product, or applied before prior layer absorbed Use less, wait the full absorption time before this step
Breakout after starting Possible reaction to Hydrogenated Lecithin for FA-conditional skin Discontinue and consider an FA-safe alternative
Common Mistakes to Avoid

Expecting a brightening effect from the trace Vitamin C content; skipping a moisturizer afterward, especially in AC; assuming "birch juice" is as well-studied as niacinamide or HA; over-applying more than 2-3 drops thinking it speeds up hydration.

Overuse threshold: there's no meaningful downside to daily AM/PM use at the recommended amount; more product per application doesn't add further hydration.

Usage Economics (How long it lasts)

At roughly 2-3 drops per use, twice daily, a 50ml bottle provides approximately 8-10 weeks of use. Using significantly more per application doesn't improve results and simply depletes the bottle faster.

Consider reordering about 2 weeks before you expect to run out.

Complete Your Routine (Exact routine + pairings)

This serum is a hydration-lane step between toner and moisturizer โ€” its job is water delivery and mild calming support, not treatment.

If you have dehydrated-oily skin, this serum plus a lightweight gel moisturizer (rather than a rich cream) is usually the better combination. If you're in AC most of the day, always seal with a moisturizer afterward. If you want an actual brightening effect, pair this with a dedicated higher-dose Vitamin C or niacinamide serum rather than relying on this product's trace amount.

Bundle โ€” Birch Juice Hydration Routine: Birch Juice Moisturizing Cleanser โ†’ Birch Juice Moisturizing Serum โ†’ Mugwort Calming Cream โ†’ Birch Juice Tone Up Sunscreen.

After purchasing, you will receive our skincare education email series covering this product in depth. The recommendations above are based on formulation synergy with this serum, not on margin or stock levels. If a pairing does not exist in our catalog, we say so. If you already own a product that fills the same role, use what you have first.

Is This the Best Choice? (Mindful alternatives)

If you want a real, higher-dose Vitamin C serum rather than a trace/stabilizing amount, Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum (Propolis + Niacinamide) uses a brand-stated 2% Niacinamide for a genuine brightening angle instead. For a pure hyaluronic-acid hydration focus, ROUND LAB 1025 Dokdo Ampoule is a same-brand alternative built on deep-sea water and HA. Anua PDRN Hyaluronic Acid Capsule 100 Serum (10ml) is a third hydration-forward option built on PDRN plus 11 hyaluronic acid types, currently in stock.

Why Choose This Over the Alternative?

Choose Birch Juice Moisturizing Serum over 1025 Dokdo Ampoule if you want licorice-derived anti-inflammatory support layered onto hydration: this serum adds Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate for real calming benefit, while the Dokdo Ampoule is built purely around deep-sea mineral water and HA with no comparable calming ingredient.

Upgrade Axis What's Better in THIS What You Trade Off Who Benefits
Barrier/calming support Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate (licorice-derived anti-inflammatory) No real trade-off โ€” both are hydration-lane products at a similar price point Sensitive or reactive skin wanting hydration plus calming in one step
Formula breadth Triple-molecular-weight HA complex plus Beta-Glucan None meaningful Anyone wanting layered, multi-depth hydration

Upgrade triggers (IF/THEN): IF your skin is reactive, easily flushed, or barrier-compromised alongside being dehydrated, THEN this serum's calming ingredient makes it the better pick. IF you specifically want ROUND LAB's deep-sea mineral-water positioning with no other functional difference, THEN the Dokdo Ampoule is equally valid.

Timing/lane note: both occupy the same Hydration Serum Lane and can be used interchangeably at the same routine step โ€” this is a formulation-emphasis choice, not a strength upgrade.

Don't upgrade if: you already own and are still finishing the Dokdo Ampoule โ€” there is no meaningful benefit to running both hydration-lane serums at once.

If calming/anti-inflammatory support matters to you, THIS is worth choosing. If not, the Dokdo Ampoule is equally sufficient. Consistency beats complexity.

The No-Buy Redundancy Check

This product's PRIMARY function is: multi-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid hydration with mild calming support. You do NOT need this if you already own another plain hydrating serum you're actively finishing โ€” use that up first.

Stacking assessment: No Benefit if run alongside another pure-HA hydration serum (same mechanism); Significant Benefit if your current routine has no dedicated hydration-serum step between toner and moisturizer.

Genuine Community Experiences

Per a DermApproved-style third-party effectiveness scoring aggregator, this product scored 75/100 for effectiveness with a "medium" irritation-potential rating (methodology-specific scores, not an independent clinical trial). Reviewers on retail sites (YesStyle, Gopicky) consistently describe a lightweight, non-sticky texture that absorbs quickly and works well for oily/combination skin in humid climates, despite being marketed as a "moisturizing" product.

Common praise: lightweight feel, fast absorption, gentle enough for sensitive skin. Common complaint: limited peer-reviewed evidence specifically on topical birch sap, and the marketed Vitamin C content doesn't deliver a noticeable brightening effect at its actual concentration.

The Final Verdict

Best for: anyone wanting a genuinely lightweight, multi-weight-HA hydration serum for daily use, including dehydrated-oily skin. Not the right pick if you specifically want a real brightening dose of Vitamin C.

Key benefits: lightweight non-sticky texture suited to Mauritius humidity, real anti-inflammatory backing from licorice-derived Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, fragrance-free formula.

Keep in mind: the marketed Vitamin C is trace/stabilizing only; peer-reviewed evidence on topical birch sap specifically is limited; contains Hydrogenated Lecithin, an FA-conditional ingredient for fungal-acne-prone skin.
